I have a 95 savage 650 and have a problem with what sounds like valves tapping. I just rebuilt the engine and put it back into the bike. The cylinder head, valve cover, camshaft, sprocket and valves are all from a used savage. I inspected all the parts before installing them. I even used my caliper and micrometer to insure they were all within specs. So, once i started the bike for the first time, it started right up, and ran well except for the tapping. I figured it was the valves, so i made sure they were adjusted to between .003 and .005". This had no effect on the tapping. I then looked at the valve adjustment again to make sure it was ok. I've read all of the entries in this forum that deal with noise and tapping, but nothing other than adjusting the valves was mentioned. I am wondering if there is anything else i can look at. My next step is to look inside to make sure nothing is wrong. Can i remove the valve cover without romoving the whole engine? Thank you for any help.
